I think the Bar are trying to hang on to a very very outdated system that only Legal Aid could really pay for.

They began the rot when they let the Bar go to the public and even before that professions(before it was totally referral and therefore essential). They didn't help themselves when they dumbed down the professional entry exams (like us) either.
