do agree that Sir Thomas Lund's Guide to the Professional Conduct and Etiquette of Solicitors (1960) was a concise and comprehensive guide as to how a solicitor should conduct him/herself. It also contained a great deal of common sense in just 133 very readable pages (plus a few appendices containing the then-current regs).

I got my copy on qualifying in 1972 by which time it had already been reprinted twelve times without revision. Frankly, if that didn't tell you everything you needed you know, one probably shouldn't have been practising. I realise times have changed, but perhaps the drafters of the new guide might have a look at it before they tinker yet again with the system. It really was a model of clarity.
