As someone who acts before the SDT I can confirm dishonesty is almost without exception a striking off offence.

The points made by others above might provide mitigation in other forums but for professionals before a regulator (solicitors, barristers, doctors etc.) they are minor points against their sanctions guidance which indicates strike off to protect the public from dishonest professionals.

I have dealt with a couple of similar cases not pursued as dishonesty charges by the SRA when the background has been set out fully at the earliest stage and their mental health was adversely affected (one work and one personal factors).

This is just a sad case which needs to be shared with junior lawyers to identify why they need to focus making sure they do not mislead their employers.
