Anon 8.27, you are absolutely correct in what you say. But the above comments seem to me to try to address the question of how things reached such a pass that this 28 year old felt she had no option but to forge the document? What, if any, support did she get from those 'supervising' her? Did they read her post, for example? I always collected my post from the post office at 7.00 a m and opened it personally to check nothing was going wrong as eventually a complaint gets reduced to writing. Admittedly those were the days before email. And I insisted all fee earners took two consecutive weeks holiday so that i would probably get at least glance at their active files, or to meet a dissatisfied client.

It is what led up to this state of affairs which I think needs closer inspection. I don't think anyone doubts that someone who forges a document should be kicked out of this, well erstwhile anyway, profession.
