It's being killed anyway. Government has been ideologically committed to reversing the public support of legal services since not long after I started in practice through attacks on 'fat cat lawyers' -all legal aid solicitors, not abuses by a few - though obviously those abuses, which I agree did happen, gave some ammunition for the process. Popular perception lags way behind reality; just because you wear a suit to work Joe Public thinks you must be rolling in it. But until I left private high street practice I never had two halfpennies to rub together and I wasn't spending my money on privately educating my children either. Or putting it into a pension.
