Yes! Yes! Yes! Scrap all the regulators and have one Regulator.
Allow every regulated, qualified person to describe themselves as Barrister, Barrister&Solicitor, Solicitor, Will Writer, Attorney, Conveyancer as appropriate.
Create Colleges to represent the various legal professions by reference to specialism eg College of Advocates, College of Will Writers, College of Probate Practitioners, College of Tax Advisers, Collegeof Conveyancers, College of Litigators etc etc.
This will force the unregulated to be regulated. This will mean that PII will be a true competitive market. this will mean that we shall all be subject to the same run-off rules (or none) and the same code of conduct and the same disciplinary process. There would therefore be true competition on quality of service to and price for consumers. Size of the "provider" will not matter. Business acumen will matter.
The so-called Representative Bodies will then be free to act as "Trade Unions" and actually represent their members interests instead of acting in the "public interest" and sucking up to Government and making suggestions eg two tier crime contracts, whilst trying to be "helpful".
