Mr Gough, where do you get the idea that the referendum was "advisory"? The Act says nothing about that. Though I'm sorry to disappoint you, I have to say that the the notion of a "new UK/EU treaty" is outside the sphere of practical politics. The genie can't be returned to the bottle; nor Humpty Dumpty put back together again. The British people, having been permitted, condescendingly enough, to express their view on "Europe" for the first time in 33 years, have made their wishes abundantly plain. No responsible government (or responsible opposition, for that matter) is going to try to resile from that verdict. And (unlike you) I have a better opinion of the courts than to suppose they would be so foolish as to interfere in this matter.
