It’s also worth noting that lawyers qualified in Kazakhstan are eligible to take the QLTS assessments (the fast track route for foreign lawyers to dual-qualify as English solicitors, with no LPC or training contract).
However, although the QLTS is well-regarded in the international marketplace and helps expanding English law globally, it will be abolished with the introduction of the SQE (Solicitors Qualifying Examination), so that foreign lawyers will need to sit the same exams as domestic candidates. Since the SQE will require foreign lawyers to meet the work experience requirement, and to pass a set of the six assessments (compared to only one exam today), it is very likely that the number of foreign lawyers seeking admission as English solicitors will be in decline vs those who will opt its competitor, New York Bar exam, which will no doubt exploit this oversight. Probably it’s worth a separate article before the changes happen.
