Thiis is all very well, but if the referendum was to be only advisory, the Act should have said so. It didn't! It was very specific. Should we or should we not leave the EU? The people replied "we should". If Parliament is to fulfil the will of the people (democracy) then nothing more is necessary to put into effect the decision of the people. That, surely, is the role of the Government. To say that Parlament can refuse the 'advice' of the people and go in any opposite direction is nonsense. This is 'politics' in its worst sense. The interesting point is whether, in the circumstances, the Judiciary has the power to ignore the will of the people, gleaned by Statute, and act directly against it.
