Interesting posts, both Simon and Martin. But on one point of detail, Simon, my recollection was that Cameron opted for the referendum because of the fear of losing votes at the last election to UKIP, not because of divisions within his own party. No doubt he did get some such votes, but Labour haemorrhaged them, although that might have been something to do with Ed Miliband's stabbing his own brother in the back, or the tombstone...

We certainly do live in interesting times. It is a fascinating debate.
