Yesterday I wrote that here was an opportunity for the Lord Chancellor to demonstrate that she understood what her office involved in safeguarding the independence of the judiciary. Today she issued a statement which is worse than if she had remained silent. By what she said she has demonstrated that not only does she not have a clue but that she does not care. Personal attacks on Judges are I believe contempt and maybe dealt with as such. No Judge in this case would regard it as appropriate to initiate such proceedings. It is the clear duty of the LC to make it clear where she and the political establishment stand in the face of such attacks. Failure to do so acts as giving tacit approval and encouragement to future acts of abuse and intimidation of our judges.
