Whilst the response from the inexperienced and lightweight Lynne Truss is no more than might be expected, the PM's failure to unequivocally stand up for the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary, and her comments on the "expected" outcome of the appeal which seem to be intended to put pressure on the Supreme Court call into question her fitness for office. It is the first duty of a PM and a government to protect the integrity of the nation, whether its boundaries or its institutions. Regardless of whether parliament has the opportunity to debate the implementation of Article 50, it should debate the government's dereliction of duty in this matter. Failure to uphold the rule of law, and the vilification of the courts for doing what they are meant to do are the first steps to anarchy and mob rule.
