With the greatest respect the number of jobs that may be lost is entirely irrelevant. Compensating victims of accidents is not intended to be a job creation scheme for lawyers.
The question that should be addressed is whether the proposals will reduce access to justice and deny compensation to those that deserve it.
The fact that the insurance industry claims vast amounts of fraud is neither here nor there. They should not settle fraudulent claims.
Neither should they have become involved in farming out information about accidents, generating a nice little income for themselves, only to howl when the claims came back in.
Surely the real point is that if someone has been involved in an accident (other than of their own fault) and suffered an injury which is other than trivial, then they should be compensated.
