You fail to take into account the increase in tax, the cost of the MIB which is funded by the insurance sector alone.
Even if your £1000 per annual insurance is anywhere near correct this will just about cover compensation for a 4 week whiplash claim let alone the costs and disbursements for a driver yet most claims nowadays seems to involve numerous passengers most of which have never paid motor insurance
