Anon 17.44, I was saddened to read your post. But take heart, there is a future after employment with the associated pressures which you describe. Google "berladgraham" and see if you can become one of their consultants. It is a novel way of working whereby they see to all your compliance etc and you work from home doing as much, or as little, as there is demand. Yes, you do not keep all that you earn, but nor do you have either the overheads, premises, employees, nor compliance worries, of conventional practice.

28 years ago today I found myself out of work with a wife, 2 year old daughter and a mortgage to service. That was the best thing that ever happened to me. i set up my own firm and never looked back. Things are different now and that way far less easy. But remember that old tale of the illiterate man who was turned down for the job as sexton, left for America and made his fortune. When he returned home he was asked where he thought he would have got had he been able to read and write. "I'd still have been the b....y sexton".
