I am a little surprised that amongst all the comments no one has mentioned the compensation Catherine Dixon may expect to receive following her resignation.

All to often resignations are followed by large pay outs, with generous additions to their pension pot, and this has happened when previous Law Society chief executives have resigned as well as in the commercial field.

A resignation is just that, unless given in response to a dismissal ultimatum, which does not appear to be the case here.

I hope the President and others on the LS Council will start their new approach by standing firm, saying to Catherine Dixon you chose to resign, we did not ask you to do so, and there is no basis for paying you any compensation or making any addition to your pension.

It is my hope, but I wouldn't put any money on it.

I will, however, judge the President (who is not currently in my good books for another reason) on what he and his Council colleagues do about compensation/pension payments following this resignation.
