Edgar at 19.42 is quite correct when he observes that mega rich City lawyers are about as far removed from the rest as, say, the rest are from the population of the third world. They are wallowing in affluence while the PBI struggle to survive.

But, there are other differences to note. Contrast the employed solicitor in, say, central or local government with the self-employed, either as a SP or in partnership in the provinces. So long as the former do a reasonable job they have a job for life and a defined benefit pension. The latter run the risk of, say, their source of income drying up, e g see what has happened in PI, and have to provide their own PII cover plus run off plus pay defined pension contributions.

In other words there are several gulfs which divide this profession. How to represent them all must, at the very least, represent something of a challenge which it would take the wisdom of Solomon to resolve. But that should not mean that we stop trying, trying that is to improve on the present.
