I am writing as someone who has made various Freedom of Information Requests to both the Law Society and Solicitors Regulation Authority.
I have had 3 Adjudications.
But neither Ms Rowlands nor Ms Dixon ever wrote to me.
I feel that it would be helpful if, in future, the CEO of both organisations could be in contact with me when I make such requests. Furthermore, I do believe that the current set-up for "Freedom of Information" requests to both organisations is in need of overhaul.
If the new CEO of the Law Society can enable the Law Society to be a "public authority" then all Freedom of Information Requests can have external review by the Information Commissioner at the ICO. At present, nothing exists beyond review by the Adjudicator, as chosen and appointed by the Law Society to review their FOI Decisions.
Good luck for the future to all solicitors and lawyers and the people you serve, the public.
Best wishes
Rosemary Cantwell
