In the past 10 years I have seen EIGHT people have nervous breakdown. ALL of them men. I personally know of THREE individuals who have had heart attacks and died. Just simply keeled over. The legal sector is stressful because the legal process has been made horrifically more complicated and convoluted than it needs to be due to constant reforms, changes and battles. Clients are notoriously critical, and on top of it all there is next to no support from any supposedly supportive body against the unending barrage from ombundsmen, STA (the legal terrorists) and clueless politicians. The profession is not dead yet but the professionals sure seem to be dying at an alarming rate. Still, the notion of gravy train gobbling lawyers never seems to end which isn't aided by the occasional random old white British boy who pipes up and says "meehh yuss I do remember the good old days now the profession is simply wrong". Idiots.
