Spot on, Richard, about The Black Tulip. We articled clerks in Eastbourne were a group of friends who met up from time to time, mainly once a week, usually in a pub after work or at the week-end. The Buccaneer, The Pilot, The Lamb, The Lighthhouse or The Beachy Head Hotel were our favourites and we would talk over common issues and generally help one another out. We were a gang of brothers plus Mary Cheesborough from Coles and James in Trinity Trees. That camaraderie, that sense that we were all pulling together in roughly the same direction of providing a working and workable legal service in Eastbourne, well contributing to one anyway, was central to it. Sadly i was told by James Webster that that has all gone now. And the biggest losers? The clients, of course. Sad, sad, sad.
