On the occasions I have had to deal with solicitors/ barristers I have found them to be totally unreliable and incredibly expensive. The solicitor did not perform as instructed and consequently the barrister put forward a wrong brief. When the mistake was corrected I incurred extra expense because the hearing needed to be rescheduled. When I confronted the solicitor she promptly left the firm who then insisted, before they would proceed, I needed to settle all accounts. This was not as originally agreed. In the end I represented myself and with the considerable help of sister as a McKensies' Friend we presented my side of all the arguments to the judge and court. The judge at the end of the hearing complimented myself and my sister for our presentation and behaviour. I have since advised others on how to present their case ie applications to court, compilation of trial bundles, associated form filling etc. I do not charge astronomical amounts. In fact my guide has always been on the ability to pay, and by that I mean for an hour's work I would charge no more than £15, or the equivalent of the clients own hourly rate of pay.
The quality of my work stands on the fact I do not have to take on many many clients like many solicitors do so my time is quality time with a client.
Can anyone tell me what is wrong with those principles?
