They are not the only ones - see the Gazette article titled "Dechert’s £16m bill in fraud office case ‘unrealistic’ – judge". I know of other firms who inflate their bills but who have not been officially caught out yet. I live in hope.

The problem is that this is not being looked at enough by the Regulators - and that includes the CLSB not clamping down on Costs Lawyers who prepare these bills. I'm sure we all find it hard to believe that the firm only made this 'mistake' in relation to only one of their clients...

In addition, the practice seems to have increased as many firms know that since Judges at County Court level at least do not look at the files or check compliance with the indemnity principle on provisional assessments, they will not be caught.
