These proposals are a dogs breakfast, poorly conceived and unlikely to deal with their stated causes or deliver the intended outcomes. They are the product of at best ignorance and at worst malign malice. The damage that they do to the legal system and hence the rule of law will be seriously damaging and deeply rooted.

The proposals are also the economics of the mad house likely to result in huge losses to HM Treasury and the Courts service.

We can make all these points without snide and barely concealed sexist and one eyed political drivel.

I hope that the changes to the SCT are bogged down in the detail and quietly forgotten in the mire of Art 50, the crisis in the Prisons system and for the HoL to do their best to amend what will be a very bad Bill: if my hopes are not met, then I hope for a reasonable period of transitional arrangements.
