When the MoJ refers to "Court users" whom do they mean?
For far too long The Law Society and our "Representative Associations" have assisted the MoJ in identifying those areas that could be cut from scope of legal aid or from the system, in an effort to save money. This is, we have been assured, on the basis that money must be saved as there isn't enough to spend on the Justice systems and Justice must takes it share of cuts.
My issue is that this is a policy of the Government as opposed to an objective necessity. The Government wants to cut spending.
Enough is enough.
We must stand up to the MoJ's propaganda. If the MoJ will only engage with us and our representatives on the basis that we must talk about cuts then we should not engage with the Government. We should champion the right of every British citizen to access Justice and remind Government that its job is to assure access to Justice for all British citizens and that this assurance cannot be funded on the cheap.
We should not engage in discussions about our fees until the Government produces a proper plan to fund the justice systems and a proper plan to resource the justice systems so access to those systems can be assured for all British citizens and so that proper systems of justice can be assured.
At the minute we have a "Poundland" system of justice which is in chaos and barely working and those who are in charge don't care.
