It is somewhat unfair of the LCJ to blame the Lord Chancellor for this. Let's not forget who it was who politicised the post of Lord Chancellor in the first place; Tony Blair , supposedly so he could insert one of his political mates into the job despite having no legal background. And after all that was said in the Leveson enquiry about the freedom of the Press, how does the LCJ square that absolutely fundamental freedom with a political appointee effectively having to criticise the Press. Like it or not the judiciary is now more politicised and indeed the MoJ has a special office to handle Press relations. If you want proof too of their requirement to be managers then what is the recent Briggs report if not a management reorganisation coming directly from a senior judge which while saying it is to reform the access to justice, is at heart a cost saving exercise. The LCJ should remember that he has been willing to accept his managerial role when it suited him, so it ill becomes him to carp about it now.
