It is generally regarded as an essential principle of a civilised legal system that one does not identify the lawyer with the client. We consider that the most reprehensible scoundrel is entitled to a fair trial and to be permitted to make - either in person or through a lawyer - the best case on their own behalf that they can. That is how the public can accept that if they were to be in that position they too would be treated fairly. Repressive regimes are notorious for treating lawyers as sympathetic to if not actively the same as their clients. See China, Turkey, Russia... the list is endless. One would hope to seen better from any contributor to this blog.
