Having read the judgment the solicitor was on his own admission guilty of forging the N251. Had the deception succeeded it would have produced a fraudulent gain of nearly £182,000.

In the circumstances, I would have thought he should count himself lucky not to be facing criminal charges.

At the very least his conduct was gross dishonesty that must result in a striking-off, and assuming this is the ultimate outcome of the retrial the whole exercise will have been a spectacular waste of time and money.
