If I were a client in a conveyancing transaction, to cut down the risk of fraud and generally make life easy for myself I would undoubtedly:

1. Use a local respected firm who I could visit in person.

2. Ask for all communications between me and them to be done via post.

I'm sure that I'd pay more than the bucket-shop factories, but peace of mind is worth a great deal when it comes to your largest asset.
