I agree the comments at 11.27 below. This clearly isn't over. The insurers are no less involved with the governing party and still hold public opinion in their pocket. There will be a bill by the next government.

This delay will give them the chance to include discount rate legislation in any bill and sneak it through. It is vital to complete the consultation which is currently on the MOJ website.

APIL needs to start drafting a coherent framework which addresses the need to combat fraud and the perception of a compensation culture. Banning cold calling by CMCs, banning TV adverts, forcing GP records to be obtained and tightening referral fee and data protection legislation to stop insurers referring customers to linked law firms for a share of the income. Parts of that may be unpalatable to some firms but it must be better than what has been on the table. If the sector sits on its hands then the same bill will soon come again.
