It shouldn't be overlooked that the convicted defendant has been ordered to pay - but this is not yet cash in the council's bank.
Press reports suggest that this was a 'criminal lifestyle' confiscation - no doubt based on an offence continuing for at least 6 months from which a benefit of at least £5,000 had been obtained.
The press reports refer to amounts credited to the defendant's bank accounts - for which she was presumably unable to persuade the court had an innocent origin.
Local authorities are also active in pursuing confiscations in trading standards cases.
