Oh Dear! Another lawyer that does not know the law. I refer to anon above/below?. A statute cannot abolish common law and here is one of the reasons why. I have had a statutory harassment notice served on me by our compliant police. My harassment was that I gave evidence to the CEO of my local council that the Monitoring officer:( guess what? a solicitor)was not complying with the law regarding planning applications. So my evidence of misconduct in public office was not investigated by the police because they now consider themselves partners with the Council , social services etc. So I immediately repeated the harassment and served a notice on the police knowing that they dare not carry out their threat to take me to court because my complaint was of THEIR crime covering up their harassment of me.
My point? Hate crimes are adequately resolved if the common law was observed. i.e. A man can do anything provided he does not cause harm or loss to another. A statute is not needed for hate crimes because it will be abused as the present statutes are. No one dare criticise the Muslims or Jews but Christians are put in prison for preaching their religion. What a mess you lawyers have allowed , You are on the front line of the law . You choose to accept your 'shilling' to compromise your morals. You know laws such as proposed above are abused,but you make money prosecuting or defending so called offenders. The refusal to accept our common law as supreme is causing much harm in our society which is gradually being taken over by powerful forces. You solicitors by your silent acceptance are willing helpers. Think on. You yourself are considered expendable once you have served your purpose. Our common law, accepted even before magna carta was destroyed by your lack of protest in the last century.
