Isn't part of the problem that the police did not do much by way of "factual investigations" before tipping off the BBC to get maximum publicity? Obviously child abuse is a dreadful; but being falsely accused is also dreadful. If anyone on this site was falsely accused, just imagine how many people will say (or be thinking) "There's no smoke without fire"...?
