I agree with Anonymous, but have one further point: the principal skill a solicitor needs is good written English. Some will argue of course that that requirement itself unintentionally discriminates, but I have no patience with that point. My teeth grate when I see Robert Bourn's references to "competency". "Competence" is a state of being competent. There is AFAIK no noun called a "competency". We have a different word for it: "skill". "Ability" works well too. Why invent new words?
