Anon. I didn't refer them as life is too short. I have, however, referred a large, well-known listed firm for the very reasons set out in Ali Khan's comment earlier.

The SRA write to me about this every nine months or so (and have done for nearly two years) and say "we're thinking about investigating this, and we might do something. Then again we might not. And if we do (do something that is) we won't tell you anyway. But if we decide to tell you it will be at least nine months before we do. PS do you know of any high street practices with an unexplained 2pence credit on client account that we can intervene into and bankrupt the partners of without notice? If so, please let us know on report@sra.org.uk in confidence." [I made the last bit up.]

I also referred another factory PI firm for lying in their advertising, and who had been caught out by the Advertising Standards Authority for lying in their advertising. SRA did b*gger all and said firm got a direct access barrister to write a letter of claim to me under the Defamation Pre Action Protocol. I pointed out to the said barrister that stating things that are true does not amount to defamation even if it harms the reputation of the subject of the statement. And factory PI CMC solicitors don't have a reputation to vindicate anyway.
