I went to Newcastle because my tutor missed the deadline to get my reference in to Cambridge and for years was hung up about not having been to Cambridge.

Since graduating 20 years ago, the solicitors that I have worked with who went to Oxford or Cambridge have been completely useless. That is not to say that there are not some good ones out there. They just could not understand the job or the clients and sometimes had so many plums in their mouths that they could not get their words out to articulate their advice to the client.

I have found the best lawyers to be those who have been to 'redbrick' universities, who worked hard whilst they were there to get at least a high 2:1.
