The profession will meet both the costs of the prosecution and defence as the PII insurers will pick up the tab for costs not recovered by the defendants which will be loaded onto renewal premium costs and we will meet the financial costs and the non monetary costs of the further erosion of the standing of the SRA.

This is not comparable to a trial for say a s.18 GBH where the defendant pleads self defence this is a trial where the evidence was there on paper and the acquittal on all charges suggests a critical failure to understand the basis on which the charges could be advanced and the legal and evidential burden.

I seem to remember an impartial inquiry into the collapse of a large MTIC fraud prosecution and think that the profession deserves a public review of the decision to prosecute and the actions of key individuals in the preparation and conduct of the prosecution.
