Lord Tenterden C.J. in Collier v. Hicks [1831] 2 B. & Ad. 663, said, at p. 669: "Any person, whether he be a professional man or not, may attend as a friend of either party, may take notes, may quietly make suggestions, and give advice." It appears on the ‘Bright’ side of things that this person has used his doctrinal skills at interpreting the obiter dicta of Lord Tenterden and found the ratio decidendi in McKenzie v. McKenzie [No. 8496 of 1965] - [1971] P. 33, as meaning give [money for] advice. Res ipsa loquitur!
