He was also reported (in last night's Standard) as making some surprisingly favourable comments about Britain's future outside the European Union. The Gazette has quite properly suppressed these. Among other things: "Once Britain's judges were 'left to our own common law devices' they would 'be able to react more quickly and freely to developments in our fast-changing world'". Sounds like the point Mr John Drowssap so often makes!

"He also insisted that Britain's departure from the EU would 'in no way undermine London's status as the world centre for legal services generally and dispute resolution in particular' and was instead 'acting as a spur to further improvements'". Headline: "Brexit could boost London as world centre for law, says Britain's top judge".

That is utterly disgraceful. As a senior member of the judiciary Lord Neuberger must be well aware that he should not make positive remarks about Brexit. It could seriously damage public confidence in his liberal credentials.
