To be clear on the position outlined in this story, all chambers must publish a set of diversity figures every three years, and if they meet certain criteria, publish them, though providing info is obv voluntary. The objection is that where all LGBT barristers in a set want to see those stats published, they are prevented by current rules - there is though, no proposal to make a declaration mandatory, or to breach confidentiality where that's sought. In that context, the relaxation sought by the Bar Council, supported by many chambers, seems sensible.
