Hear hear! There is nothing wrong with plain English, and it is to be encouraged. However, a few warnings: (i) Say what you mean, not mean what you say; e.g. "after the crash my ears hurt"; "The 99 bus went past at full speed a moment later"; Reconcile. What time was it? What First Aid has the victim had? What evident injuries are there? Has an ambulance been called?"
ii) err on the side of caution: don't second guess the professionals. If this means being in the ambulance too, don't argue.
iii) Don't speak to the press until absolutely sure what you want to say, and don't be deflected from that.
