I agree with Dominic Cooper's comments totally. I am a property lawyer with 20 years plus experience but before that about 5 years experience in more general practice. Some aspects of probate and wills can be very straight forward - but you have to be able to know when it is and it isn't. It is not for your client to decide. If it is simple inevitably the costs should be much lower anyway.
Most practices tend to deal with Lasting Powers of Attorney on a fixed fee basis anyway. These are very important documents not just from the aspect of the appointment of a lasting power of attorney but also from the point of view of the living will. They can impact significantly on someone's life. My partner and I, though both lawyers ourselves, are getting another lawyer to do this for us as it is her specialty and she knows all the wrinkles and ins and outs. Money well spent so far as I am concerned. I am not impressed or swayed by the current ridiculous fashion of expert-bashing. I want the people who help and advise me on crucial areas of my life, be they health issues or legal issues, to really know their stuff and to have the proper experience and qualifications. One cannot help feeling that those who think otherwise, are simply resentful that they lack any expertise on anything themselves - the good old chip on shoulder attitude.
