I am regularly appalled by the standards of other firms in their property work, both residential and commercial. Perhaps if more people reported the offenders to the relevant senior partners, the SRA and the CQS department of the Law Society, standards might improve. Also copying in your own clients and agents on emails highlighting the other side's inadequacies and suggesting that those recipients forward them to the party on the other side can achieve welcome results. The offending side is much more likely to smarten up its act if its own client raises hell in their reception and loudly demands explanations from the senior partner. It can also be useful to tell clients which firms to avoid like the plague and which firms bribe estate agents to send them work. Word gets around.
If enough solicitors did this, the CQS might remove accreditation from the worst offenders and make life so much easier for the rest of us.
