Anon @ 15:27 - I agree the LPA forms are long (particularly the health and welfare LPA) but, from recent personal experience of completing and registering a relative's property and affairs LPA, I have found the OPG to be helpful and efficient - the registered power came back very soon after their 4 week notification period (to other attorneys and donor) had expired.

I fully appreciate that you too may speak from personal experience but, again from my own perspective, I think your comments about civil servants are a little unkind. A few months ago I was asked to deliver some training to staff at the OPG Investigations Unit that deals with complaints against attorneys and deputies, as part of a programme of widening their understanding of the work of other Government departments, or organisations, which also come into contact with attorneys or deputies. The questions I received were intelligent and apposite, suggesting a good understanding of the (fairly technical) areas of law I covered.
