Anon yesterday @ 17:05 highlights a common problem. Dealing with care homes is so much easier if someone is acting under a power of attorney (as my family found recently, with a relative who eventually died with vascular dementia). Otherwise you and the home are into the nightmare of the DOLS regime. Fortunately, although the dementia was progressive, our relative still had sufficient capacity to execute a health and welfare power a few months after doing a property and affairs power, which made things considerably easier in terms of their care.
