In response to Mr Maloney, Parliament does of course enact legislation (statute law) in accordance with its own rules of procedure, but these are not "common law rules of procedure" for the simple reason that Parliamentary procedure is one of the areas where the courts refrain from any kind of intervention. That said, I entirely sympathise with Anonymous 23/08/17 10:26 - whatever one's views on the Article 50 case, the interval between the referendum result and the Supreme Court's decision should surely have been taken by the Government as an opportunity to work out its Brexit strategy 'behind the scenes' so that the kind of strategy papers that are now being trickle-fed to the public should have been ready to roll immediately after the article 50 notice was given to the European Commission. As it matters stand, the UK seems still to be developing its exit strategy, with nearly five of the 24 months available for negotiating having already passed.
