It always amazes me how those on the left are willing to excuse serious allegations of or convictions for sexual offences (see the SWP and Comrade Delta, Assange, Roman Polanski and other cultural luminaries) excuse language that would send them into self righteous apoplexy if used by someone on 'the right' (see also antisemitism) and as such it is no surprise that Assange is feted (if that's not too strong a word) in this way.

In my view there is no way that he should be invited whether by video link or at all.
