The objections are surely to houses demised by new lease. The position for flats is quite different (and there's already much legislation restricting landlords' worst excesses. What's needed is a rewrite of all land law (inc. L&T), just as with the mammoth Tax Rewrite Project. There's already way too much legislation on the topic and it's hopelessly disorganised. Sad to say, the Law Commission adamantly refuses even to include this in its Annual Law Reform programming- I know: I've tried several times to explain, both to the Law Commission and to successive Ministers of Housing, why it would be a Good Thing to do. Each approach has been rejected or ignored.

As to Commonhold: that was just a joke from day1 and its best laid to rest.
