Information and guidance regarding the leasehold issue from the CJC is important and should provide some direction for future action.
Unfortunately I have great concerns with the comments reported in this article as the chair of the CJC holds a vested interest in a leasehold management company. How then can this advice be considered impartial and measured?
There is only one reason to promote the continued use of leasehold in England and Wales and that is to provide a relatively high interest rate finding stream for third party investors, presumably the same people that Sir Terence Etherton is associated with?
The only comment I agree with is that solicitors and conveyancers do need to check their indemnity policies sooner rather than later.
Abolition of leasehold is not a last resort- it needs to be a primary response!
