I think there's one more point worth mentioning. Client work involves being in a closed room with the client for a period of time. No-one disturbs the consultation, no-one enters or leaves the room. A consultation can only proceed satisfactorily if both parties have complete trust in each other. Surely it can't be right that a client be expected to spend time alone in a room with a solicitor convicted of attempted murder? Does the client have the right to be informed of the solicitor's status before the consultation, and be given an opportunity to refuse to consult him, and consult another instead? What if the consultation proceeds, and the solicitor has a resurgence of his medical condition, with catastrophic consequences for the client? Presumably, the SDT does not owe a duty of care to our clients. 0r does it?
