Any employer with half a brain will be anxious to employ and retain the most talented people. However demographic change takes time. If in twenty years it is apparent that despite the larger number of women in the legal work force there is still a significant imbalance in favour of men at senior levels it may well be possible to conclude that selection purely on the basis of ability is not working. Until then, what is anyone supposed to derive from this research as a current policy to be pursued?
